Riot Platforms Amplifies Mining Capacity with Major MicroBT Miner Purchase

Riot Platforms, Inc., a leader in the Bitcoin mining industry, has strategically bolstered its mining capabilities through the acquisition of 31,500 WhatsMiner M60S miners from MicroBT. This $97.4 million investment, translating to an efficient $16.50 per terahash (TH), is set to significantly enhance Riot’s self-mining operations at its Rockdale Facility. With this move, Riot aims to replace underperforming machines and increase its mining efficiency, while also expanding its hash rate capacity, according to Riotplatforms.

Scheduled for delivery in May and June 2024, this order will elevate Riot’s Rockdale Facility’s hash rate capacity from 12.4 exahashes per second (EH/s) to an impressive 15.1 EH/s by the end of July 2024. Furthermore, Riot’s year-end hash rate target for 2024 is ambitiously set at 31 EH/s, factoring in additional growth at the new Corsicana Facility.

The M60S miners, MicroBT’s latest generation air-cooled machines, boast an efficiency rating of 18.5 joules per terahash (J/TH) and an output of approximately 186 TH/s per machine. This purchase not only signifies Riot’s commitment to maintaining a leading position as a low-cost miner but also marks a significant step towards achieving a future 100+ EH/s mining fleet. MicroBT has expressed enthusiasm for continuing its partnership with Riot, supporting its ambitious expansion goals with high-performance mining equipment.

Through strategic investments and partnerships, Riot continues to strengthen its position in the competitive Bitcoin mining landscape, demonstrating a commitment to innovation and sustainable growth.
