Residents of the Irkutsk region sent a request to the president to deal with illegal miners

The appeal to the President of Russia contains a request to resolve the negative situation in the energy industry in the region.

According to media reports, the citizens claim that power outages are caused by illegal miners.

Due to low electricity tariffs, Irkutsk has become a popular place for mining cryptocurrencies. Significant load on the network becomes the cause of emergency shutdowns, which began to occur on a regular basis.

The document was signed by 2 thousand citizens. They insist on special tariffs, as well as other measures that will help in the fight against illegal mining. Also, the letter noted the decision № 2053 of 14.11.2022, which states that the relevant authorities have the right to apply the necessary measures to address such situations.

As a reminder, previously there were statements from regulators that there is active work to detect illegal cryptocurrency mining by changing the load profile and increasing the amount of energy consumed.
