A hacker attack on BTC.com resulted in a $3 million loss

It became known about the hackers’ attack on the mining pool BTC.com. The total amount of funds stolen reached $3 million, of which $700 thousand – customers’ funds and $2.3 million belonged to the company.

It should be noted that the break-in occurred as far back as December 6, but the parent company BIT Mining Limited commented on it only now. At the moment the reasons for such a long cover-up of the break-in are unknown. There is a chance that the company was hoping for a quick recovery of assets without making publicity, but that plan did not work.

BTC.com is a large mining pool ranked №7 in the global ranking. The last week’s hashrate was 5.8 Eh/s.

After the attack, the affected companies contacted the Shenzhen police. For now, an investigation is underway, and evidence is being collected. Some of the assets have been recovered. The relevant law enforcement units in Beijing are assisting.

According to the company, it works on recovering the assets. Also, according to BTC.com’s statements, the pool’s operations have not suffered and are running normally.
