Marathon Digital Breaks Record with Bitcoin’s Largest Block Ever Mined

Marathon Digital Holdings has achieved a new record by mining the largest block in Bitcoin history, block 841,886. This block is notable not only for its size but also for containing a manifesto from a decentralized technology initiative named Logos. The block includes just four transactions, primarily focused on embedding this manifesto into the blockchain. This effort awarded Marathon’s mining pool a reward of approximately 3.17 BTC, with about $2,654 coming from transaction fees alone, according to Aicoin.

The significance of this achievement is highlighted by the block’s size, reaching 3.993 MB, slightly surpassing the previous record-holder, block 832,849, which was 3.990 MB and connected to the Runestone Ordinal project. This trend towards larger blocks has been driven by the growing interest in Ordinal inscriptions, a method of embedding various types of data directly on the Bitcoin blockchain. These inscriptions have gained traction since early 2023, symbolizing a fusion of technology and artistic expression within the blockchain space.
