Solo Miner Strikes Again

A solo miner has struck gold once again, finding Bitcoin block #780,112 on March 10th, as reported by the CKPool administrator, Kon Kolivas. The miner was rewarded with 6.25 BTC and 0.63 BTC in transaction fees, totaling over $153,000 at the time of writing.

The computational power of the network, as measured by Glassnode, was 308.2 EH/s at the time of the mining, with the miner’s contribution accounting for approximately 0.002% or 6.7 PH/s.

The lucky miner took to the Bitcointalk forum to share his success, thanking the pool creator and calling it a “great stroke of luck.” The miner also revealed that he hails from Russia.

This marks the second time this year that a solo miner has found a Bitcoin block, with the last one being found in January. Despite the odds of a solo miner finding a block being quite low, this serves as a reminder that it’s still possible, especially for those with enough computational power.

As the mining difficulty reaches a new all-time high of 43.55 T, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for solo miners to compete with larger mining pools. Nevertheless, the recent success of solo miners shows that the Bitcoin network remains decentralized, with smaller miners still having a chance to strike it rich.
