Nuclear-Powered Facility in Pennsylvania Gains Momentum

TeraWulf, a crypto mining company, has announced that it is deploying mining equipment at its Nautilus bitcoin mining facility located near Berwick, Pennsylvania. The facility is powered by the 2.5 GW Susquehanna nuclear plant, which is predominantly owned and operated by Talen Energy.

The unique collaboration between TeraWulf and Talen Energy began in 2021 when the two companies agreed to build the bitcoin mine adjacent to the Susquehanna twin reactors. TeraWulf has already commenced mining operations at Nautilus and anticipates having its full share of phase one, consisting of 50 MW and 1.9 EH/s, operational by May. Furthermore, the company has the option to increase its bitcoin mining capacity at the Nautilus facility by an additional 50 MW, totaling 100 MW.

TeraWulf is utilizing a mix of BITMAIN miners, including the S19 XP Pro miners, which boast a processing power of 140 TH/s and an energy consumption of 3 kW, resulting in an efficiency rate of 21.5 J/TH. The company is also deploying S19j Pro and S19 Pro miners, which have a processing power of 100 TH/s and energy consumption of approximately 3 kW, for an efficiency rate of 30 J/TH.

In addition to the Nautilus facility, TeraWulf operates another bitcoin mining site in New York. The company claims that its operations are powered by 91% nuclear, hydro, and solar energy sources, with an ultimate goal of utilizing 100% zero-carbon energy.
