Canadian utility company proposes not to supply energy to the blockchain industry

Hydro-Quebec, a Canadian utility company, has proposed not supplying energy to the blockchain industry and believes it would help reduce the ever-increasing demand.

It should be noted that there are no direct statements that this applies specifically to miners. Nevertheless, the Canadian province has been a nice place for cryptocurrency mining companies to operate, as there are many “green” energy sources available here.

Nevertheless, more than once there have been discussions about restrictive measures. If the proposal is adopted, it will mean even more difficulties for this field.

Hydro-Quebec insists that the 270 MW is not granted, even though it has been previously planned.

The company requested because of a projected increase in consumption and insists that the power supply to the blockchain industry be discontinued.

Major cryptocurrency miners in Quebec include Bitfarms and Argo Blockchain.
