An underground miner stole $1.6 million worth of electricity

The fact of electricity theft was established in Irkutsk. Cryptocurrency mining devices were installed without the electricity meter.

According to the information provided by the police, the entrepreneur installed 130 pieces of equipment and stole electricity. The farm operated for three months.

The owner of the equipment was associated with the management of a market in Irkutsk and deliberately connected the devices to meters for a few days a month so there was no suspicion.

It is the first time such a trial has been held in the region. Police initiated a criminal case and sent the materials to the court. The defendant pleaded guilty and repaid the damage caused. Nevertheless, he faces up to two years of imprisonment, forced labor, or a fine of 80 thousand rubles.
