Canadian province won’t connect new miners to a power grid

Authorities in British Columbia said they intend to ease the strain on the grid by suspending the connection of new miners. During the ban, BC Hydro, the head company that supplies electricity, will be able to create a regulatory framework to regulate cryptocurrency mining.

According to Canadian Energy Minister Josie Osborne, there are several complexities regarding miners:

Against the backdrop of consuming amounts of energy, such businesses create very few jobs.

According to the Department of Energy, the amount of energy consumed by the miners at the moment could supply 570,000 homes for a year.

Authorities noted that the suspension applies to new facilities and will not apply to the seven existing facilities and six others that have begun the connection process. Miners’ interest in British Columbia stems from the fact that 87% of the region’s energy is generated through hydroelectric power plants.

According to the government, the restrictions will also support CleanBC, which is working to introduce clean operations and reduce harmful emissions.
