Texas Residents Protest Against Power Plant Expansion for Bitcoin Mining

In Granbury, Texas, local residents have expressed strong dissatisfaction with Constellation Energy’s plans to expand the Wolf Hollow II power plant, which will be used for Bitcoin mining. According to the company, the new 300 MW gas turbines will add over 796,000 tons of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere annually, sparking protests from environmentalists and the local community. To offset these emissions, 12 million trees would need to be planted and allowed to grow for 10 years.

Residents are also concerned that the new power plant will operate in conjunction with existing Bitcoin mining operations, which have already caused significant noise issues. Marathon Digital’s operations have prompted continuous complaints about low-frequency sounds disturbing residents and affecting their health.
