Whale Accumulation Spikes as Bitcoin Nears All-Time High

Bitcoin whales and small holders are accumulating in sync. Glassnode data shows increased buying activity and whale address growth, hinting at a potential new price surge.

Bitcoin whale count hits new high in 2025

Bitcoin’s network is experiencing a resurgence in investor accumulation, with whales — wallets holding at least 1,000 BTC — increasing from 1,392 to 1,417 in just seven days, according to Glassnode.

This spike marks one of the highest whale counts this year, signaling renewed confidence among institutional investors. These whale clusters reflect entities controlled by the same organization or individual.

Retail investors join the accumulation phase

Interestingly, not only whales but also the smallest holders, known as “shrimps” (owning less than 1 BTC), are actively accumulating. This trend is reflected in the Accumulation Trend Score, which approaches 1, indicating strong buying behavior.

The score is calculated over a 15-day period and excludes miners and exchanges to focus on genuine investor sentiment. This alignment between whales and retail hasn’t been seen since November 2024, during Trump’s re-election, which sparked a rally to $100,000.

Bitcoin may soon retest its historic high

Given the coordinated accumulation and growing market optimism, analysts believe that Bitcoin could be preparing to challenge its all-time high. With psychological resistance near $100K, the stage may be set for another major breakout.
