U.S. plans to introduce reporting on greenhouse gas emissions for mining companies

U.S. lawmakers plan to assess the degree of impact of mining on the environment and develop special reporting rules for companies that mine cryptocurrencies. As a result, the Environmental Protection Agency should conclude the degree of danger.

The initiative comes from several senators who insist that mining is harmful to the U.S. energy system and local power grids. The plan is to analyze businesses that use more than five mW of power.

According to one Senator Ed Markey, cryptocurrency mining is reversing the progress that has been made for many years to combat climate change

The reporting in this case should be a step toward making mining companies across the country more accountable. Especially since the miners are plugged into the power grid, which works to provide livelihoods for households. Lawmakers also outlined the problems of noise and water pollution due to the activities of the mining companies.

At the end of all inspections, it is expected to create several rules for reporting, as well as identifying the miners, who work without the necessary permits.

The senators’ initiative was supported by many environmental groups.
