Top Chinese ASIC Makers Shift Production to the US

Bitmain, MicroBT, and Canaan are moving Bitcoin ASIC production to the United States to mitigate tariff impact and secure their presence in the world’s largest mining market.
China’s ASIC Giants Set Up Production in the US
Bitmain, MicroBT, and Canaan — the top three Bitcoin ASIC manufacturers globally — are launching production in the United States. This strategic move is a response to escalating tariffs that have reached 25% on Chinese imports.
According to Cambridge University, Bitmain leads the global market with 82%, followed by MicroBT with 15% and Canaan with 2%. Together, they control 99% of ASIC mining hardware production.
Tariffs Force Global Rethink of Mining Supply Chains
The U.S. mining industry has been booming, but recent trade policies have complicated imports. In late 2024, U.S. Customs detained 10,000 Bitmain ASICs due to concerns over Chinese suppliers linked to sanctioned entities like Huawei.
To avoid further issues and maintain market share, these firms are now investing in local production facilities. While it’s unclear if U.S.-produced ASICs can compete with China’s pricing, this shift reflects the growing importance of a stable American supply chain.
With competition intensifying and regulatory risks increasing, the move signals a new chapter for the global mining ecosystem — one shaped as much by geopolitics as by technology.
