Tether to Open Source Bitcoin Mining OS in 2025

Tether plans to release its open-source modular Bitcoin mining OS by Q4 2025. The new system aims to eliminate the need for third-party vendors.

Aiming to empower new Bitcoin miners

Tether will open-source its Bitcoin Mining OS (MOS) by the end of 2025. CEO Paolo Ardoino said the modular, peer-to-peer system will enable new miners to join the industry without costly external vendors.

The OS will support a variety of mining setups, including containers and power management systems.

Ardoino emphasized the system’s potential to improve decentralization and security in the Bitcoin network.

The move aligns with Tether’s decentralization strategy

In April, Tether joined Ocean mining pool to help decentralize block building. The company redirected its hashrate to support the protocol’s infrastructure.

Meanwhile, large miners continue to diversify. Hive Digital earns more from AI than from crypto mining and is shifting focus accordingly. On the other hand, Cango went all-in on Bitcoin, selling legacy operations and generating over $100 million in BTC within two months.
