Tether Invests $102 Million in South American Agriculture Giant

In a bold investment move, Tether, the world’s largest stablecoin issuer, has acquired 9.8% of Adecoagro, an agricultural giant based in South America. The $102 million investment, made between July and August 2024, positions Tether as the third-largest shareholder of Adecoagro, a Nasdaq-listed company known for its leadership in milk, rice, and sugarcane production.

Tether views land as a “crucial asset class,” complementing its prior investments in Bitcoin and gold. The company believes that agriculture, especially land, provides long-term yield and stability, making it a smart hedge during times of geopolitical uncertainty. Adecoagro, with operations across Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay, represents a strategic investment aligned with Tether’s goal of diversifying its portfolio and supporting sustainable development.
