$17B in Bitcoin: U.S. Authorities Reveal Size of Seized Assets

U.S. government agencies have confirmed holding approximately $17 bln worth of Bitcoin, acquired through various seizures. RBC Crypto cites internal reports indicating around 200000 BTC confiscated from criminal enterprises and fraudulent traders over recent years.

Under current protocols, the courts can authorize the sale of some seized digital assets or place them in long-term reserves. Officials previously conducted multiple auctions of sizable Bitcoin holdings but appear to be shifting policy. Authorities suggest maintaining a large portion of BTC, notably given ongoing discussions about a potential “national crypto reserve.”

This significant stash has prompted debates on its possible market impact. While some analysts argue that long-term retention may stabilize the crypto space, others point to risks if the government releases large volumes back into circulation. Regardless, these figures highlight the expanding role of digital assets in the U.S. legal and financial landscape.
