Ex-Officer in Udmurtia Seized Mining Gear Worth 6 mln Rubles and Gave It to a Business Partner
The Unified Press Service of Udmurtia’s courts reported a guilty verdict against a former economic security officer. He illegally confiscated mining equipment valued at over 6 mln rubles and handed it over to a businessman for personal use. The rightful owner lost numerous ASIC units in what the court deemed a major theft and abuse of official powers.
Case materials reveal that the hardware was used for underground cryptocurrency mining, netting about 800 thousand rubles before authorities intervened. The court sentenced the ex-officer to five years in prison, while his accomplice received three years.
This incident highlights the risk of officials misusing their investigative authority. Officials stress that such conduct will be strictly punished under criminal law.
