U.S. Commerce Department Investigates TSMC Over Huawei Chip Supply
The U.S. Department of Commerce has launched an investigation into Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) regarding possible chip supplies to Huawei that may circumvent sanctions. Sources indicate that TSMC might have supplied chips through intermediaries, violating restrictions imposed in 2020.
Huawei is under U.S. sanctions due to national security concerns and is prohibited from obtaining advanced semiconductors without special permission. If confirmed, TSMC could face serious consequences, including fines and restrictions on doing business with U.S. companies.
The investigation could heighten tensions between the U.S. and China in the tech sector and impact the global semiconductor supply chain.
