Thailand Seizes 63 Illegal Mining Rigs: Damages Surpass $327K
Law enforcement in Thailand recently raided the Pathum Thani region, finding and confiscating 63 crypto mining rigs that were illicitly tapping into power lines. Authorities estimate losses to exceed $327K. The equipment was hidden inside three abandoned houses and operated remotely, with no personnel on-site.
Officials stated that additional devices were seized, including three mining controllers and routers. Investigators discovered tampered electricity meters designed to hide the machines’ energy consumption. The Thai government has intensified efforts to dismantle unauthorized mining operations to curb rising incidents of power theft.
Authorities also cautioned that these unmonitored setups pose significant fire hazards due to their enormous energy draw. Further inspections are planned, targeting additional abandoned properties where hidden rigs may be draining local utilities, causing financial harm and endangering nearby residents.
