Cryptos Instead of Tomatoes: 69 Mining Devices Found in Tashkapur Greenhouse
In Tashkapur village (Levashinsky District, Dagestan), utility workers uncovered an unusual setup: a greenhouse had been repurposed into a crypto farm, housing 69 mining rigs. Initial data indicates the landowner secured power connection under the guise of operating a personal farm plot. However, no tomatoes were planted; instead, powerful hardware ran around the clock.
According to “Dagenergo,” the operation caused about 5 million rubles in losses, though the exact figure may be revised. Inspectors note that such clandestine facilities risk overloading power lines and causing voltage spikes for legitimate customers. During a standard audit, employees detected suspicious energy use, prompting an infrared scan that revealed the large cluster of devices.
Although the owner denies any wrongdoing, regulatory bodies have launched proceedings and confiscated the equipment, aiming to prevent further losses. Experts warn that such cases are far from rare in areas with lower electricity rates.
