ASIC Supplier Faces Court: Suspected of Evading Import Duties
Therussiannews reports that a major ASIC-equipment supplier in Russia is embroiled in a legal case. Authorities suspect the company of repeatedly importing mining hardware without paying the required customs fees. Investigators believe that between 2023 and 2024, the total value of these imports reached hundreds of millions of rubles.
Officials warn that such practices create unfair market conditions and deprive the treasury of revenue, as import duties can range from 15–20% of declared value. Allegedly, the firm mislabeled ASICs as generic computer parts to avoid stricter categorization. However, inspections revealed the devices were specifically built for crypto mining, meaning they fall under different customs classifications.
If found guilty, the company’s executives could face substantial fines and criminal penalties. Experts argue such loopholes accelerate the spread of underground mining, as cheaper gear appeals to more unregistered operators.
