Russian Ministry of Energy Supports Ban on Mining in Energy-Deficient Regions
The Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation has expressed support for the initiative to ban cryptocurrency mining in regions with energy deficits. Deputy Minister of Energy Evgeny Grabchak noted that areas like the Far East, southwest Siberia, and southern regions cannot provide large capacities until 2030.
Mining in these zones adds extra load to the energy system, potentially leading to overloads and power supply disruptions. The Ministry believes it is advisable to restrict mining to ensure the stable operation of the energy complex and meet the needs of the population and industries.
The proposed measures are being discussed at the government level and may be implemented soon. Industry experts note that banning mining in certain regions will help redistribute mining capacities to areas with surplus energy, reducing risks to the country’s energy system.
