Head of Dagestan Requests Russian Government to Ban Mining Due to Energy Crisis

The Head of the Republic of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, has formally requested the Russian government to impose a ban on cryptocurrency mining in the region. He pointed out that the sharp increase in energy consumption due to mining is placing a significant strain on the power grid, leading to frequent outages for residents.

According to local energy companies, electricity consumption in Dagestan has risen by 26% over the past three years. Mining farms, often operating illegally, consume substantial amounts of energy without considering the capacity of regional infrastructure. This results in network overloads and emergency shutdowns.

Melikov emphasized that the priority is to ensure reliable electricity supply for the population and social facilities. A ban on mining would help stabilize the situation and reduce the load on the region’s energy complex. The government is expected to consider this appeal in the near future.
