Bitcoin’s Volatility Deters Corporations from Cryptocurrency Investments

The extreme volatility of Bitcoin is causing concern among major corporations regarding its use as a treasury asset. Recently, Microsoft declined a proposal to invest in Bitcoin, citing risks associated with price instability.

Over the past 12 months, Bitcoin’s price has fluctuated from $15,000 to over $67,000, showing changes of more than 300%. Such unpredictability makes it challenging to use for preserving corporate reserves. Analysts report that Bitcoin’s annual volatility is around 80%, significantly higher than traditional assets.

Chief financial officers express concerns about the potential impact of such fluctuations on balance sheets and financial reporting. While some firms, like MicroStrategy, actively invest in Bitcoin, most corporations prefer more stable instruments for liquidity management and risk mitigation.
