Uzbekistan Raises Rates: Crypto Mining Under Scrutiny
In April 2025, Uzbekistan announced new electricity tariffs affecting the crypto mining sector. Preliminary plans call for higher multipliers targeting miners to offset the increased strain on the power grid. Additionally, farms using over 100kW of capacity must register.
According to the Ministry of Energy, the nation’s overall electricity usage rose 12% over the past year, partly due to unauthorized mining operations. Officials believe stricter tariffs will push participants toward “green” solutions or out of the industry altogether. However, critics warn these measures could drive more operators underground unless eco-friendly farms receive incentives.
Several major players are already contemplating moving their operations to neighboring countries with more lenient regulations. The final decree text is expected within weeks and could drastically alter the regional mining landscape. Many await further clarification from regulators before deciding the fate of their farms.
