Illegal Mining Operation in Miri Found Stealing Power Worth 18K Ringgit Monthly

In Desa Senadin (Miri, Malaysia), law enforcement and Syarikat Sesco Berhad carried out a joint raid, uncovering a covert crypto mining setup. Reports say the operators stole electricity valued at about 18K ringgit per month through direct grid taps. According to official statements, the premise housed 25 mining rigs.

Data shows 48 cases of electricity theft linked to crypto mining were recorded in Miri over the past 12 months. Authorities suspect a coordinated group was bypassing meters to lower costs. All equipment seized during the operation has been confiscated, and an investigation is underway.

Such illegal activities place a severe strain on power networks, often resulting in overloads and voltage fluctuations. Officials warn that offenders risk not only fines under Section 33(5) of the Electricity Ordinance but also up to five years of imprisonment.
