Frost and Open Windows: Miners’ Cooling Methods Freeze Pipes
Some covert miners in the Irkutsk region cool rigs by leaving windows wide open in winter, hoping to reduce equipment overheating. However, this strategy often results in burst water pipes when exterior temperatures plunge. Bratsk TV reports one building suffered ruptured lines at −25 °C, flooding adjacent apartments.
Such a makeshift approach to temperature control not only jeopardizes infrastructure but also risks plaster collapses due to abrupt thermal swings. Miners expect freezing conditions to prevent ASIC overheating, but building residents frequently call on management companies or local officials to put a stop to these practices.
Experts warn that open windows in severe frosts can harm load-bearing walls, with condensation weakening internal materials. Community advocates urge anyone witnessing these “DIY” cooling methods to report them promptly, avoiding costly damage and disputes among neighbors.
