Deutsche Telekom Launches Pilot Project to Mine Bitcoin Using Surplus Renewable Energy
Deutsche Telekom, Europe’s largest telecommunications company, has announced the launch of a pilot project to mine Bitcoin using surplus renewable energy in Germany. The project aims to stabilize the energy grid by utilizing excess energy that would otherwise go unused.
According to the company’s statement, its subsidiary MMS will manage the mining operations, utilizing electricity from renewable sources such as solar and wind farms. This will allow efficient use of surplus energy while simultaneously supporting the Bitcoin network.
The project is conducted in partnership with Bankhaus Metzler, Germany’s oldest private bank. The joint efforts are focused on exploring the integration of cryptocurrency mining into the country’s energy infrastructure. If successful, the project could be a significant step toward sustainable mining and energy stability.
