Arkansas Residents Rally Against Crypto Farm, Thousands Sign Petition

A large-scale protest has erupted in Arkansas County against a proposed cryptocurrency farm near the city of DeWitt. Local reports state that outraged citizens gathered nearly 50% of the town’s signatures in just two weeks to halt the project. Leading the construction is Jones Digital, which aims to install several hundred high-performance mining units.

Concerns center on the potential for excessive noise, high power consumption, and minimal benefit to the local economy. Activists claim the grid could be unable to handle an extra 5–7 MW of load. City officials warned that overburdened substations might trigger increased electricity fees, hurting households financially. The local prosecutor indicated it may be challenging to stop construction outright due to Act 851, a law curtailing municipal authority over crypto projects.

Opponents point out that Jones Digital will create no new jobs or significant tax revenue because it’s based outside the county. They reference nearby areas where similar farms have caused noise pollution and voltage fluctuations. Protest organizers believe support for the petition will continue to grow, possibly leading to court action.
