Moscow Region May Be Added to List of Regions Banning Cryptocurrency Mining
According to recommendations from the energy system’s ‘System Operator’, the Moscow Region may be included in the list of regions where cryptocurrency mining could be banned. The reason behind this decision is the anticipated electricity shortages in the coming years, due to increased load on the power grid.
Experts note that mining requires significant energy resources, which could lead to grid overloads and deterioration of power supply quality. Authorities are considering implementing restrictions to prevent potential issues in the region’s energy system.
Analysts report that the Moscow Region houses over 15% of the country’s home miners. Banning mining could reduce the grid load by 500 MW, equivalent to the energy consumption of a large industrial enterprise. A decision on including the region in the list will be made after further analysis.
