Missouri Bill Shields Miners and Self-Custody Rights: Key Highlights
Under Missouri Senate Bill 614, several crypto-friendly provisions are proposed to benefit digital asset enthusiasts. Firstly, a guaranteed “right to mine” permits Bitcoin mining free from overly strict limitations. Secondly, self-custody is formally recognized, preventing direct governmental intrusion into storing crypto holdings.
Authors claim these steps will strengthen the state’s innovative ecosystem and attract blockchain firms. Furthermore, the bill allows allocating up to 10% of public funds into Bitcoin. Though contested by some, proponents assert it diversifies the state budget.
An additional clause exempts Bitcoin nodes from money transmitter licensing. Experts suggest this will lower barriers for hobbyists and businesses building crypto infrastructure. Should the bill be enacted, Missouri will join the forefront of states fostering a robust cryptocurrency environment.
