Mining ban in North Caucasus fails to cut energy usage, says ODU Yuga

The Southern Grid Dispatch Center (ODU Yuga) reports that the 2025 crypto mining prohibition in several North Caucasus republics has yet to reduce electricity consumption. According to the organization’s director, unlicensed operators likely continue tapping residential tariffs or making unauthorized connections, undermining official restrictions.

At the end of 2024, only a few legal entities and sole proprietors were officially registered as miners, but actual loads could far exceed these figures. Experts point out that already energy-deficient areas face frequent overloads, threatening reliable power supply.

Authorities plan stricter oversight to locate and shut down illicit facilities. Nonetheless, a lasting solution requires infrastructure upgrades alongside tighter enforcement of residential power policies to mitigate the region’s chronic grid strains.
