Metaplanet raised $11.3 mln and soared 12x: the crypto bond effect
Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has issued $11.3 mln worth of bonds to buy Bitcoin for its corporate balance. Right after the announcement, its share price leaped 12 times — from 1.8 to 21.9. According to analysts, this is one of the most drastic jumps among Japanese investment funds in the past five years.
Previously, Metaplanet experimented with smaller debt offerings, but this release became its largest to date. Experts believe the company is betting on BTC’s long-term growth and aims to become a major player in the digital assets space. Inspired by this result, other Japanese firms may follow suit.
BitcoinTreasuries data shows Metaplanet’s share of the corporate crypto market is still only around 0.5%. Yet the dramatic rise in its stock suggests that merging traditional financial vehicles with Bitcoin can attract substantial capital and stir investor confidence in new investment models.
