Malicious Devices on Marketplaces: 45% Spike in Mining and Data Theft

Cybersecurity experts have discovered a 45% increase in the sale of gadgets loaded with malware on major marketplaces. They estimate that nearly 20k potentially risky devices reach consumers every month. Criminals primarily aim to conduct hidden cryptocurrency mining and steal confidential information.

Analysts warn that trojans can be embedded in headphones, smart bracelets, and even children’s toys, enabling remote activation of harmful processes. Through such malware, attackers gain access to financial data and convert infected systems into DDoS attack tools.

Recent data reveals that mining incidents on compromised electronics have doubled over the past six months. Specialists advise buyers to only purchase from reputable sellers, review ratings diligently, deploy antivirus protection, and avoid connecting suspicious devices to computers.
