Hut 8 Invests $2.5 bln in AI Center: Louisiana Project Approved
Local officials in West Feliciana Parish (Louisiana) have granted Hut 8 permission to build a $2.5 bln AI data center on 611 acres, aiming to create up to 1,400 jobs. The initial phase features two 42k sq. m server buildings, each requiring roughly 150 MW.
Hut 8 states the facility will support multiple use cases, from advanced AI computing to ASIC-based mining. The site’s peak load could exceed 1 GW when fully operational. In 2024, the firm signed preliminary supply deals worth $10 mln for server hardware.
Observers note that part of the site’s compute resources will likely be leased to third-party machine-learning initiatives. The company is also in talks with local universities for research collaborations. Phase one is expected to go live by late 2025, with full operations slated for 2026.
