Over 2,100 Lawsuits Filed by Irkutskenergosbyt Against Crypto Miners

Local media report that Irkutskenergosbyt initiated 2,113 lawsuits over the past five years to recover unpaid electricity costs from individuals caught in illicit mining. Allegedly, the total claim amount exceeded 650 mln rubles, as unchecked power usage was consumed for around-the-clock crypto extraction.

Many defendants attributed their high consumption to continuous space heaters or heavy household equipment, but courts discovered ASIC mining rigs in several instances. The ongoing crackdown shows no signs of slowing.

Observers note that network overloads cause not only financial damage but also system instability. Experts warn of frequent power disruptions that impact local citizens, escalating complaints and driving enforcement actions in the region.
