BTCHEL 2025: Helsinki to Host the First Major Bitcoin Conference in Northern Europe

Helsinki will host the largest Bitcoin conference in the Nordic region, featuring over 50 internationally renowned experts, including Mikko Hyppönen, Adam Back, and Peter Todd. The event is expected to attract around 1,000 attendees and more than 20 crypto industry partner companies. It will take place on August 15–16 at the Kulttuuritehdas Korjaamo cultural venue.

BTCHEL2025 will be the first Bitcoin-focused event of its kind in the Nordic countries. Similar conferences have been held in the US, with speakers such as Donald Trump, Michael Saylor, and Ross Ulbricht, and in Europe in cities like Prague and Amsterdam.

World-Class Speakers and Strong Focus on Mining

BTCHEL will feature over 50 speakers, including Mikko Hyppönen (WithSecure), Jeff Booth (Ego Death Capital), Martin Paasi (Member of the Finnish Parliament), Tere Sammallahti (MP), Adam Back (cryptographer), Peter Todd (Bitcoin developer), and Martti Malmi (early Bitcoin developer).

This year, the conference will have a strong focus on Bitcoin mining. Mining-related speakers include Luke Dashjr, Bitcoin Mechanic, Rachel Geyer, Sunil Kumar, Harald Reuter, Fredrik Vyncke, Leo Haf, Jaakko Kaijala, Janis Varkals, Robert Schulman, Elmeri Suomi, Fabian Weber, Lukas Waldner, Alejandro de la Torre, and General Kenobi.

The mining partners supporting the event are Terahash, Ocean Mining, European Bitcoin Energy Association, Minersloop, Powermining, 21energy, and Sunbit. On Friday, most of the scheduled program will be dedicated to mining, with panel discussions, technical deep dives, and presentations on energy efficiency solutions.

Advancing Bitcoin Adoption

The conference aims to bring together key industry players to foster discussions and initiatives that can accelerate Bitcoin adoption. Attendees will not only hear from top speakers but also meet innovative companies and exhibitors at the expo area.

Finland’s Historical Link to Bitcoin

Finn Martti Malmi worked directly with Bitcoin’s creator, the elusive Satoshi Nakamoto, and was involved in the world’s first BTC-to-fiat transaction. Today, he continues working on decentralized technologies and will share his insights at BTCHEL.

Why Finland?

As a leader in innovation, sustainability, and digital transformation, Finland is the perfect location for a Bitcoin conference. Known for its thriving tech community and contributions to open-source projects like Linux, Finland also offers favorable conditions for mining due to its cold climate and reliable energy supply. BTCHEL’s program will cover waste heat recovery and how mining data centers can contribute to grid balancing.

Community Values

Since May, the organizers have been running a two-story pop-up store and community hub in Helsinki. It hosts monthly meetups attracting dozens of participants and serves as a shared office space for early-stage startups, as well as a venue for workshops and product launches.
