Irkutsk Bathhouse Used for Mining Consumed Power Equal to 144 Homes
In Irkutsk, a bathhouse converted into a mining farm was found to consume electricity equivalent to 144 residential homes. The energy company “Irkutskenergosbyt” discovered the misuse of electricity and filed a lawsuit.
Inspectors noticed abnormally high energy consumption and, upon inspection, found 9 mining devices installed in the bathhouse. The property owner ignored the proposal to renegotiate the contract for commercial electricity use. As a result, a recalculation amounted to nearly 400,000 rubles, which the owner has since paid.
The incident in Irkutsk highlights the issue of illegal mining and its impact on the region’s power system. Energy companies urge compliance with legislation and warn of potential fines and legal actions in case of violations.
