Lights Go Off in Bashkortostan for Debts Starting at 1,000 Rubles: Miners and Locals Affected

According to prufy, power cut-offs have become widespread in the Republic of Bashkortostan for customers owing more than 1,000 rubles. Officials say the move targets “gray” crypto farms, yet ordinary consumers behind on bills are also impacted. The region’s overall debt reportedly stands at 1.5 billion rubles, partly attributed to clandestine mining operations.

Residents in suburban areas complain they receive no advanced notice before shutoffs. On average, reconnection can take up to three days and cost about 3,000 rubles in fees. Activists claim a lack of clear procedural guidelines leaves even those who paid their bills vulnerable to being added to cut-off lists.

Local utilities insist stricter measures are needed to discourage delinquencies; otherwise, mining-related overloads will affect everyone. Meanwhile, civil rights advocates argue this approach is excessively harsh for low-income households.
