Romania’s National Post Installs First Bitcoin ATM

Romania’s national postal service has installed its first Bitcoin ATM in Tulcea. The move reflects growing public sector adoption of digital assets and ongoing infrastructure modernization.
Bitcoin ATMs Arrive in Romania’s Post Offices
Poșta Română, Romania’s national postal service, partnered with Bitcoin Romania (BTR) to install the country’s first Bitcoin ATM. The device was placed at a branch office in Tulcea.
The postal service plans further expansion. Future Bitcoin ATMs will be installed in Alexandria, Piatra Neamț, Botoșani, and Nădlac. This initiative aims to modernize infrastructure and provide new services to underserved regions.
Government Institutions Embrace Cryptocurrency
Placing Bitcoin ATMs inside national post offices reflects growing institutional acceptance of digital assets. Lawmakers and public agencies are responding to rising consumer interest in cryptocurrencies.
This official support may encourage further Bitcoin adoption across Romania.
Global Bitcoin Adoption Remains Limited
Despite growing interest, global Bitcoin ownership remains relatively low. According to River’s Q1 2025 report, only 4% of the world’s population holds Bitcoin.
The United States leads globally, with 14% of its population owning Bitcoin in 2025. This underscores rising adoption in the world’s largest economy.
Bitcoin’s Growth Potential Is Still Massive
River estimates Bitcoin’s total addressable market is still below 1%. Analysts suggest Bitcoin could eventually capture up to 50% of the store-of-value market, including cash, stocks, real estate, precious metals, and art.
With its current market cap just above $2 trillion, Bitcoin still has significant room for growth.
