New Electricity Limits in Arkhangelsk Region Impact Residents Instead of Illegal Miners
At the end of 2024, Arkhangelsk Region enacted regulations aimed at combating unlawful crypto mining by imposing strict power-consumption limits. Surprisingly, these measures hit private homeowners relying on electric boilers, driving their bills up to triple the previous amounts. In some municipalities, costs soared from 12–15 thousand rubles to 35–40 thousand rubles per month.
Local LDPR representatives point out that the problem is aggravated by the lack of alternative heating sources, as gas supply remains incomplete in many areas. Households using electricity solely for heating are effectively lumped together with miners who deliberately exceed established limits.
Regional lawmakers are calling for a “fair tariff” solution that accounts for real living conditions in northern territories. For now, residents either pay exorbitant fees or reduce consumption, facing the prospect of cold homes during the harsh winter.
