Arkansas Seeks Amendments to Data Center Act
Arkansas lawmakers propose amendments to the existing Data Center Act. According to a state senator, mining sites should keep a safe distance from military facilities and urban hospitals. This move could impact two major data centers already granted preliminary construction approval.
Officials note residents have filed an average of 30 complaints monthly about the 5–10 mile noise range. Mining opponents point to rising electricity costs that might reach $50 mln regionally. Advocates of the revision highlight that zoning restrictions could preserve resources and protect high-security areas.
The measure passed initial hearings, with a final decision expected in the coming weeks. Local media reports that some operators plan to relocate their equipment to other counties to avoid possible conflicts with defense and healthcare centers.
