Antibitcoin Activist Leaves Texas: ‘It Became Pointless to Fight’

Jackie Sawicky, founder of the Texas Coalition Against Cryptomining, is relocating to Massachusetts. She highlights that over the past three years, mining centers in the state jumped by 45%, with local authorities strongly endorsing crypto expansion. She calls it “Sisyphean” to keep resisting.

Her main grievance is the enormous energy usage: Texas farms collectively consume power equal to 2.6 million households. Environmental threats and noise, Sawicky argues, don’t receive the necessary reaction from officials. Public hearings were held, but decisions usually favor mining businesses.

She notes she’s departing Texas with disappointment but vows to continue advocacy at the federal level. Allies plan to push for strict regulations on coal plant usage for farms. Meanwhile, Texas cements its status as a “haven” for cryptocurrency.
