Strategy Marks 5 Years of Bitcoin Adoption with Crypto Purchase

Strategy acquired $18M in Bitcoin to mark five years of its BTC treasury plan, raising total holdings to 628,946 BTC.

Strategy, the world’s largest public Bitcoin holder, purchased another $18 million in BTC to celebrate the fifth anniversary of its Bitcoin adoption, launched on August 11, 2020.
According to a U.S. SEC filing, the company acquired 155 BTC during the week ending Sunday at an average price of $116,401. BTC traded between $114,000 and nearly $122,000, approaching all-time highs.
Record Bitcoin Holdings
The acquisition brought Strategy’s total BTC reserves to 628,946 coins, bought for about $46.1 billion at an average price of $73,288.
The firm’s first Bitcoin buy was in 2020 — 21,454 BTC for $250 million. Since then, Bitcoin’s price has surged 960% from $11,400 to around $120,000. Over 74 purchases, Strategy has never stopped buying BTC.
Co-founder Michael Saylor reaffirmed plans to keep purchasing BTC regardless of price. In June, he reiterated his forecast that Bitcoin could reach $21 million per coin within 21 years.
