Strategy and Metaplanet Expand Corporate Bitcoin Holdings

Strategy buys 7,390 BTC for $765M amid lawsuit. Metaplanet boosts holdings to 7,800 BTC, nearing Galaxy Digital.

Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, acquired 7,390 Bitcoin worth $764.9 million last week, despite being named in a class-action lawsuit. The company now holds a total of 576,230 BTC valued at over $59 billion, representing an unrealized gain of 47%.

Metaplanet Follows with Major Accumulation Move

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet also made headlines on May 19, announcing the purchase of 1,004 BTC for $104.6 million. With 7,800 BTC in total, Metaplanet has overtaken El Salvador in corporate Bitcoin holdings.

This is the firm’s second-largest buy to date, trailing only its 1,241 BTC acquisition earlier in May. Metaplanet is now the largest public holder in Asia and ranks tenth globally among public firms.

Lawsuit Targets Strategy, But Bitcoin Demand Stays Strong

Despite growing corporate interest, Strategy faces legal trouble. A class-action lawsuit filed in Virginia accuses executives — including Michael Saylor — of misleading investors about the risks and profitability of its BTC strategy.

Meanwhile, Strategy’s approach continues to inspire other companies. AsiaStrategy (formerly Top Win) and a Bahraini firm both adopted similar treasury strategies. River Research reports that businesses are the largest buyers of BTC in 2025, surpassing ETFs, governments, and retail investors.
