South Korean Official Caught Running Crypto Mining Operation Using Stolen GPUs

In South Korea, a government agency director has been caught using stolen GPUs to run a cryptocurrency mining operation at his workplace. The director installed high-end GPUs worth over $10,000 to power a crypto-mining server within the institution’s premises, effectively stealing both equipment and electricity.

To evade detection, he used VPN technology to bypass corporate firewalls, allowing the unauthorized mining operation to continue for months. This incident is one of the first of its kind in the country, raising serious questions about cybersecurity and the potential for further misuse of government resources for personal gain.
