Surge in Illegal Crypto Investment Scams
In Q1 2025, the Central Bank identified 2,780 entities with signs of unlawful activity. Of these, 1,638 were Ponzi schemes, and 86% accepted cryptocurrency. Most projects promised fast returns and advertised via messengers and social networks.
Organizers often portrayed these schemes as legitimate crypto investments. They claimed fixed profits and compared crypto investments to bank deposits, misleading users. The illusion of security helped attract more victims.
Unauthorized Securities and Pseudo-Forex Trading
The regulator also flagged 897 firms for violations in the securities market. This included 777 pseudo-forex dealers who offered crypto margin trading without proper licenses. Most of these entities operated online only, without legal approval.
