Revolutionary 120v Mining Rig Breaks New Ground for U.S. Home Bitcoin Miners

Imagine mining Bitcoin in a typical U.S. home, without any electrical upgrades. Travis Bitckle, a U.S. based miner, makes this scenario a reality by unveiling a single-board Antminer S19 jPro that runs on a standard American 120v power supply, according to ungovernablemisfits.

The importance of this invention cannot be overstated, especially for American miners who have struggled with the challenges of needing a 240v electrical outlet and device limitations. The mastermind behind the initial concept is Zack Bombsta of Pivotal Pleb Tech, who developed a jailbreaking circuit board called “Loki Board.” This allows miners to use any power supply, bypassing the restrictions of stock supplies.

Most mining rigs in the U.S. are designed for 240v, an electrical configuration not commonly available in American households. Travis’s innovative setup eliminates this need, using a standard 120v power outlet and an APW3++ power supply from an older Antminer. Furthermore, the rig optimizes a 240v donor machine by removing one of its hash boards for this 120v build.

In terms of performance, the numbers are surprising. The rig’s single hash board, originally from a 92Th machine, produces 37Th by itself,  while increasing hash production by 20%. This makes the rig comparable to a 111Th machine, defying expectations for a Frankenstein-like setup.

Travis also addresses noise issues often associated with home mining. He replaced stock fans with an AC Infinity 6” inline fan, significantly reducing noise. Additionally, a Wifi bridge was incorporated, eliminating the need for an Ethernet cable and making the setup more convenient for home use.

The total cost is around $500, with the potential for cost reduction if older machines are salvaged for parts. This invention might be the leveling force U.S. home miners have been waiting for, allowing them to contribute to the world of decentralized finance without needing specialized electrical setups.
