Public Miners Reduce Bitcoin Holdings: Is the HODL Era Waning?

Recent data has unveiled a significant shift in cryptocurrency trends. Public miners, once known for their unwavering belief in “hodling” Bitcoin, are now parting with their assets. The change was highlighted by Jaran Mellerud, a notable figure in the cryptocurrency mining community, according to JMellerud.

Mellerud pointed out that from May 2022, public miners began a downward trend in their Bitcoin holdings. The numbers are telling. They have witnessed a sharp decline from 46,000 Bitcoins in May 2022 to 35,000 by September 2023. This means that over a span of roughly 17 months, these miners have sold more Bitcoins than they’ve mined.

Such a shift prompts crucial questions about the future of Bitcoin and the mining community’s faith in it. Is the “hodl” narrative, once a foundational ethos of the crypto community, starting to crumble? Only time will tell if this is a temporary dip or a sign of a larger change in the cryptocurrency landscape.
