NiceHash and Marathon Digital Launch New Firmware for Home Miners

Cloud crypto mining platform NiceHash has introduced a new firmware product developed in collaboration with Marathon Digital. The new firmware, branded as NiceHash Firmware Powered by MARA, makes Marathon Digital’s advanced mining technology accessible to retail and home miners, according to Cointelegraph.

Marathon Digital, the world’s largest Bitcoin miner by market cap, mined 390 BTC in May. The new firmware combines features from both companies to enhance performance and profitability for miners of all sizes. Users will pay a fee of 2%, or 1.4% when using the NiceHash pool.

The NiceHash firmware is compatible with various ASIC mining machine models and management tools. It supports multiple algorithms and can switch between them as their efficiencies vary. Features include autotuning, temperature control, and a mobile app for remote ASIC management.

This collaboration comes amid increasing scrutiny of crypto mining’s impact on energy consumption. Bitcoin mining’s profitability has been closely watched since the April halving, which reduced miners’ profit per block by 50%. Former President Donald Trump has expressed support for the U.S. crypto mining industry, despite doubts about his sincerity.

In addition to software and mining services, NiceHash operates a hashrate market. Here, ASIC owners can sell their hashing power for any coin NiceHash supports. The buyer receives the reward for blocks mined, while the seller is paid the average price of all orders in the NiceHash pool, reducing the seller’s risk.

This partnership between NiceHash and Marathon Digital aims to democratize access to advanced mining technology, benefiting a broader range of miners. As the industry faces regulatory challenges and evolving market conditions, innovations like this could help sustain its growth and profitability.
